When the swimmers join the Competitive Development Squad the training sets increase and they are introduced to more types of training sets. There are 5 swimming sessions available for this squad per week. Squad members should be able to cover between 2000-3000m during per hour during a training session. This is a crucial stage of the swimmers development, following the training plan and commitment to the training plan will steer them towards more complex progressions, a variety of test sets are integrated into the programme.
This squad includes the following work and expectations: -

Develop and improve stroke technique on all four competitive strokes.

Learn more complex stroke drill progressions for all the four competitive strokes.

Monitoring training using test swims.

Practice IM swimming sets.

Learn and perfect starts, turns and finishes on all four competitive strokes and IM turns.

Learn and perfect relay takeovers.

Independently monitor training by using pace clock.

Complete a well-balanced training programme, that includes; varied pace swims (builds, negative splits, descending sets etc) basic swimming speed, pacing and over distance swims.

Learn the rules of the sport.

Increase the distance covered in training sessions to improve endurance.

Participate in club time trials and club competitions performing a variety of strokes and distances.

Participate in local meets.

Learn the process of goal setting and working toward objectives.

Learn to complete a log book of training and competition results.

Learn and practise basic stretching and core body strength work.

Take responsibility for training equipment required at each training session (pull buoy, drink bottle and fins, goggles.)
Please Note:
All swimmers under 13 must have a responsible adult present for all training sessions, and the swimmer must know who they are if it's not the parent, in case of emergency.
